Meopham and District Footpaths Group
Aims of the Group
To assert and protect the rights of the public to the use and enjoyment of public rights of way; to encourage walking; to conserve the countryside and to support other organisations which share our objectives.

Co-operation
We value the first class relationship we have with the local farmers and landowners, the KCC Rights of Way team, other walking Groups and related organisations, and by the Parish Council.

General information about the M&DFG
It was formed in 1962 and in 2012 we are celebrating our 50th anniversary. Group membership currently exceeds 260. There is a formal Constitution which sets out the bjectives and procedures of the Group.

The Committee members are subject to election at each Annual General Meeting in October. (Details of the

Committee members are contained in each edition of the Group`s publication `Newsletter`.) Committee meetings are generally held on a monthly basis, under the present Chairmanship of Mr Ken Dare. Members are welcome to attend a Committee meeting, by prior arrangement with the Chairman, or Secretary.

Membership
Annual membership is available for £5 per person, Life membership is £50. Membership is free for young people aged 16 or under. See our Web Site for contats and a membership form.

The Group has a programme of regular Sunday, midweek and summer evening walks throughout the year. Details are available to members from the quarterly issue of `Newsletter`.

Caveat: It is necessary to point out that anyone taking part in the Group`s walks does so at their own risk.

Long distance walks and occasional walking holidays elsewhere in the country and abroad are arranged by the Group.

Social events are held from time to time. They have varied from more formal dinners to quiz evenings, a strawberry fayre and a Jazz evening.

Published Walks
The Group publishes sets of walks leaflets. These may be obtained from the Secretary, or from Towncentric in Gravesend.

The sets of walks cover the following:-
Set A. Starting from Meopham Green.
Set B. Based on Camer Park.
Set C. Comprising walks from Harvel.
Set D. Walks starting from Hodsoll Street.
Set E. From Vigo Village car park.

A Monitoring Programme is carried out annually by a team of Group members. Any deficiencies are recorded

and corrective action taken as necessary. In that respect we work closely with the KCC Rights of Way

Officer, to our mutual benefit. Clearing of undergrowth and overgrowth is a major factor. Each year over a hundred man-hours are spent by the team on clearance work.

Affiliated membership is held of The Ramblers and the Open Spaces Society. This provides a wide basis of general and specific information on rights of way plus advice, if required. We also act as a Consultee on draft papers issued by the respective Government Department.

The Group welcomes new members and greatly values existing members, whether keen walkers or simply `armchair supporters` - long may the vibrance and enthusiasm we enjoy today continue in the years ahead.
